Haemanthus magnificus 'Giant Stove Brush'
Amaryllidaceae Barbara and John Hopper, Kenwood This genus includes about 60 species of bulbous herbs native to Africa. Leaves are basal, flowers red or white in dense umbellate heads or terminal on a solid scape. This species is similar to H. natchensis, but the 6-8 spathe valves are bright green. Included in group called Blood Lily. Grown for summer and autumn bloom. Likes night temperatures 50-55° F. Bulbs need rest over winter. It has been a faithful bloomer for the past 4 years.
