Anchusa capensis
Boraginaceae Don Mahoney, San Francisco This beautiful forget-me-not relative has vibrant true blue flowers and is a perennial from a deep tap root so it is also remarkably drought tolerant. It blooms throughout the spring and with supplemental water it continues to bloom late into the fall. As with most forget-me-nots, its flowers are rather small but they are produced in abundance. It hails from South Africa and is hardy at least into the high 20s. Old stems die back as new ones are produced. Photo by |
