Arisaema tortuosum
Araceae Barbara and John Hopper, Kenwood (Sonoma Co.) The Hoppers cultivate a variety of Arisaemas, some in pots, some in the ground. This species is from China and the Himalayas. The Hoppers saw and photographed it in the Yunnan Province in May of this year. Arisaemas need rich, well-drained soils high in organic matter, shade, and a constant supply of moisture during the growing season. Flowers are curious, funnel-shaped with a broad, tapered blade that hangs over the flower opening. The few leaves have 3-19 leaflets. The plant can reach 5' in height, and blooms in early summer. |
