Gordonia longicarpa
Theaceae Don Mahoney, Strybing, San Francisco This camellia relative has very showy large to 4 inches white camellialike flowers that are very fragrant. The leaves are leathery, like camellia leaves, but are larger. It comes from Yunnan province in China where it grows 7080 feet tall. It is rare in cultivation, but so far has thrived at Strybing.
