Serruria florida
Family: Proteaceae Common Name(s): Grown by: David Grey, San Francisco The blushing bride is one of about 50 members of this genus from South Africa. It has large translucent white bracts blushed pink and was once thought to be extinct but was re-discovered after fire encouraged dormant seeds to sprout. It is considered difficult to cultivate, as unlike most protea family members, it wants a shallow, cool, yet sunny exposure. Also like other proteas, it requires well-drained acidic mineral-poor soils. Photo by Steve Morse |
