David grows these outdoors in the ground in Berkeley, but suggests that most would increase more readily in containers in a freely-draining mix. The Billbergia sports hot-pink bracts between which the flowers emerge and suffers top damage at 28°. It is not readily available. The Aechmea had blue flowers.
