Rhipsalis salicornioides (was Hatiora salicornioides )
Cactaceae
Fred Coe, Ross
Although this is an epiphytic cactus from the Rio de Janiero region of South America, it has been growing outdoors year round for 2+ years. It gets some shelter as it is against the south west side of the house. This is the odd "bottle cactus", which has joints that look like inverted bottles. The plant shown was growing in a 2.5-inch pot and was 5 inches high with several waxy yellow flowers. David Feix has lost it to frost, so my micro climate is warmer. The generic name is an anagram of Hariota, a generic name commemorating Thomas Hariot, an English scientist-historian, mentor to Sir Walter Raleigh.
