Calanthe sylvatica
Orchidaceae
John & Barbara Hopper, Kenwood

Calanthe sylvatica (blue) non-deciduous species.
Calanthe is a genus of about 150 species and is distributed throughout tropical Asia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, extending across India to Madagascar and Africa and some in Japan. Calanthe are divided into 2 groups. Those with corm-like insignificant pseudobulbs, and those with short or long stems with several large leaves up to 2 ft. long. Inflorence is terminal. Flowers are small to medium in size and are showy.
Culture: compost. All evergreen species as this one need more shade. Never let the roots become dry. Less water is required after flowering is completed.
