Amaryllis belladonna hybrids
Amaryllidaceae Wayne Roderick, Orinda The naked lady bulbs from South Africa are well known to gardeners. The one exhibited had a richer dark pink color, more open flower, was larger, and more open throated than the common trumpet form. These hybrids come in white, bi-colors and rich pinks. Their leaves can fill quite a large space during the winter growing season and then they need a dry summer — ideal for naturalizing in coastal California. Photo by Bruce Peters |
