Colquhounia coccinea var. mollis
Lamiacaeae Kristin Yanker-Hansen, Danville This plant is a salvia look-alike but is not a salvia. It comes from southwest China and becomes a large shrub to 8 feet if given the space. Orange-red flowers are produced in profusion in the summertime making it an excellent hummingbird plant. It is most suitable as a background shrub and can take sun in the fog belt or part shade inland. It can also take fairly heavy frost. Photo by Kristin Yanker-Hansen |
